Product Design Process

Traditionally, turning an idea into a product meant moving step-by-step-refining the concept, defining business requirements, researching users, and collaborating with developers before anything could be built. It was a linear process with clear handoffs.

With vibe coding, that process evolves. Once the idea and requirements are in place, I can move directly into designing and building at the same time. This allows for faster iteration, real-time problem-solving, and space for creativity'without waiting for development cycles to catch up. It's a more fluid, collaborative, and innovative way to bring digital products to life.

Style

Designing with UI kits and component libraries requires more than just plugging things in-it's about understanding the system and knowing how to push it. I focus on maintaining consistency while injecting personality, ensuring the product doesn't feel generic or templated. Whether I'm customizing a design system or working within an existing one, I aim to elevate the experience by making thoughtful visual decisions that reflect the brand and enhance usability. It's about striking the right balance between structure and creativity.

Wireframes

I don't wireframe every screen anymore, but when I'm tackling a complex flow or need to clarify structure, I jump into Figma to work it out. Creating wireframes helps me think through the user experience, identify edge cases early, and ensure my design decisions support both usability and technical feasibility. It's a extremely lightweight now but it is still a valuable part of my process.

The Product

Airbooost is a free dashboard and management tool designed for Airbnb and short-term rental hosts. It provides an all-in-one view of property performance, including bookings, revenue, guest trends, and occupancy metrics. The platform uses AI to analyze guest data, uncover insights about income, demographics, and booking behavior, and offers actionable suggestions to optimize listing, marketing, and property appeal. It also includes tools to help manage cleaning teams, track inventory, and document property conditions. Airbooost is ideal for hosts looking to make smarter, data-driven decisions with minimal effort.

Thoughts

This was a fun and rewarding project to design and build-vibe coding proved to be a powerful approach, especially for small, focused products like this. Still, there are a few key lessons I took away:

The AI loop is real
Sometimes you'll go in circles talking to AI. It helps to step back, understand the system, and craft a more strategic prompt to guide the AI toward a useful solution.

Planning matters
Just like traditional development, good planning upfront saves you pain later. While small changes are easy, restructuring the architecture mid-build is a much heavier lift.

Complexity compounds
The more features you add, the more fragile things become. Keeping things lean and intentional makes it easier to scale without breaking what already works.

Designers now have real control
In the past, development was a handoff-something outside a product designer's control. With vibe coding, that's changed. We're no longer limited by dev queues or technical constraints. Now, we can bring ideas to life ourselves and shape the final product exactly as we envision it.
